Website Accessibility Support & PDF Document Remediation

Ensure your website is ADA compliant.

Best practices for website and document accessibility are required by the American Disabilities Act (ADA) to prevent businesses from discriminating against people with disabilities. While this is the case, the federal government does not have detailed standards in place that can be easily followed, making it difficult for a business to know whether it is taking all the correct steps to provide accessible information to disabled website visitors.

Is your company doing all it can? Don’t fret—Subatomic is here to help.

Fortunately, there are a couple of existing standards—namely the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and Section 508 Standards—that are well respected and used widely as the basis for website compliance. In a nutshell, businesses can use these standards to ensure they are providing the disabled with full and equal access to and enjoyment of content and services they present.

Examples of proper best practices include: proper title and alt tags on website images, accurate tooltips on contact forms, readable color contrast for those who are colorblind, and an appropriate, top-down content hierarchy on your site pages. Proper compliance allows for accessibility tools like screen readers to correctly provide information to those with vision issues.

ADA compliance also extends to PDF documents that you provide online, whether through your website or other digital means. The goals are similar: you want to be certain your documents have a logical reading order, working bookmarks and table of contents (if included), and are tagged correctly throughout. This includes the tagging of links, annotations, and images. Correct tagging is also necessary for headings, forms, and tables, though these also must be appropriately nested so content order is represented as intended.

It may sound like a lot—and it can be—but Subatomic has years of experience with ADA compliance. Count on us to assist you with our website accessibility and PDF document remediation services.
